Belinda Baker decided to start Power of the Pen in April 2010. She sent out an email To friends and family to ask them for second hand stationery to give to children in need. She had such a positive response to this request that she decided to try and help more children and reach more schools.

Belinda is a speech language pathologist who also has a diploma in remedial education and an Honours degree in Psychology. She has worked in educational settings since 1997, working with children with learning disabilities, attention deficits, reading, spelling and other problems.

Currently Belinda runs an educational consultancy with her business partner. They have done numerous talks, workshops and practical sessions with parents, educators and learners in both mainstream and remedial environments.

Belinda believes that it is through education that children will have a future. By keeping children in school as long as possible we are hopefully keeping them off the streets. Education is the key to the future and yet it is basic equipment like pens and pencils which are the necessities of achieving this goal.

It is time to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem
